A Washington man who tried to kill his wife went on a crime spree and is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and arson. The man, who has a history of drug convictions, is now behind bars for his latest actions.

The 43-year-old man, from Blaine, was arrested on the evening of December 26. The violence started when the man tried to take away his wife’s cell phone. His wife’s parents, who also live in the home, were assaulted as they tried to protect their daughter. The man smashed the phone and the wife fled outside. The man then fired several shots at her, but hit her car instead.

The man got into his vehicle and sped off. He crashed his car and ran off. He was arrested by a state patrol trooper. Besides Washington State Patrol, Blaine Police and U.S. Border Patrol assisted with the situation. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured in the attack.

Police found 7 grams of methamphetamine on the man and in his home. In 2010 and 2016, the man had been convicted of previous drugs charges, mainly possessing a controlled substance without a prescription.

The man is currently in police custody at the Whatcom County Jail. He faces charges of first-degree malicious mischief, second-degree arson, assault, hit and run, possession of a controlled substance and attempted murder.

Understanding Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can be a scary crime for all involved. It is important that both the perpetrators and the victims get the help they need. Protection orders can help.

Sometimes domestic violence is a one-time event, but in many cases it is recurring. It is unknown what exactly caused the man’s violent outburst in this case. He was, however, using drugs, which can cause a person to engage in abnormal behavior. By staying sober and attending anger management classes, the man can avoid future violent outbursts
